"Where Were You?" is a question that is asked over and over on this date as people rewind their lives to that Tuesday morning in 2001 when the Trade Towers fell amidst the terrorist attacks that rocked the entire world that day.

I remember back to that day myself, missing school for a doctor's appointment in the morning and getting home at around 10:30am and turning on the TV and seeing the same footage on just about every channel I turned to with the caption "America Under Attack". For people of my generation it was a level of violence that none of us had seen so close to home as New York City. It was the type of violence that was read in the newspaper of acts overseas and concluded with "it will never happen to us".

Everyone has a story connected to that day - for me it was learning that an uncle of mine was working down the street from the towers and saw it all happen in real time outside his window. For many others they lost close friends and loved ones and were left in a state of hysteria as officials tried to get through the rubble and try to locate any survivors.

The date 9/11 has become a term that is engrained in everyone's psyche that lived through it and has a meaning unto its own - no more needs to be said for each person to recall that image in their minds that defines that date for them.

In the combat sports world at the time there was a Middleweight unification bout that coming weekend between Bernard Hopkins and Felix Trinidad that was postponed for 2-weeks in the wake of the attacks, the UFC was preparing for their return to Pay Per View with a main event of Tito Ortiz Vs Vitor Belfort, which would be changed to Ortiz Vs Vladimir Matyushenko.

The WWE crew was on the road that day getting set for the "Smackdown" TV taping in Houston that evening and then on their way home after another weekend tour. With air travel suspended and the country on standby, the crew was left in Houston to digest all of the information and spend this horrific period of time away from their families.

The company went forward with a live edition of "Smackdown" that Thursday night in Houston promoting it as the first live public gathering since the attacks and modeled the show after the tribute show they held in 1999 for Owen Hart. There were no storylines, straight matches with clean finishes and pre taped comments from talent reflecting on the attacks. The comments ranged from concern for their families and the loss of life endured on that day to anger from some that demanded revenge be sought on the guilty factions and even so far as Stephanie McMahon comparing the plight of the American people to how her father was victimized in 1994 by the U.S Government going after Vince McMahon for conspiracy to distribute steroids.

For many people their lives are divided into two sections - pre and post 9/11 - it was a day that will never be forgotten and nor should it be and on this day let's never forget the 2,998 innocent lives that were lost on that day.

Very classy move writing about this John. No one should forget that day. No one should forget why these soldiers who are risking their lives overseas are doing so. 2,998 - what a tragedy.

You also remember JBL? Up on that screen telling Osama that we were "gonna gettim?" And called Bush one of the greatest leaders of all time? Yeah, I remember all right. We'll show those terrorists we're not afraid,... here in houston. They introduced the Muhammad Hassan character, and then proceeded to use "terrorists" to beat up the undertaker. WWE has been riding that sanctimonious cash cow since it happened. Its really when I realized what an oppurtunist McMahon was.

Pauly, I don't agree with everything I've seen Mr. McMahon do over the years, but remember one of the reasons they hate us is that we live in a country were entertainment and freedom of opinion is given the right and opportunity to inspire, repulse, amuze, or even anger. Our country gives us all that chance and as a veterain even if I don't like his ideas I have to stand but his right to push any envelope he wishes or even exploit any opportunity that anyone sees. I don't have to like or respect it but if we take away anyone's rights popular or unpopular then what happens to our rights and freedoms the next day

And you're entitled to that opinion. I'm just a little tired of people that aren't veterans, or in the military, or ever had a whiff of being in the military, coming out to show "the world" how UNafraid they are of terrorists. Then exploiting the same merits to make some quick cash. Vince makes no qualms about being a money-grubbing whore. He takes great pride in it. I'm just calling a spade a spade.
